Inspired by the real archives of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican. The priest performed more than 100,000 exorcisms in his lifetime and passed away in 2016 at the age of 91. Amorth wrote two memoirs – An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories – and detailed his experiences battling Satan and demons that gripped and possessed people with their evil. The film, being the portrayal of the real-life character, follows Amorth (Russell Crowe) as he investigates a boy’s horrific possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy that the Vatican has desperately tried to protect and keep in the dark.
