Babilônia follows great silent film actors at the end of the 1920s, just when cinema starts to be talked about. In 1926, Mexican immigrant Manny (Diego Calva) helps transport an elephant to a Kinoscope Studios executive’s party. There, he meets actress Nellie LaRoy (Margot Robbie) and also actress Jane Thornton. During the party, Manny starts seeing other actors in their less glamorous versions. Nellie is eventually recruited to replace Thornton at Kinoscope and quickly begins to be Hollywood’s new “it girl”, appearing in countless films and being the most beloved. Manny is not forgotten either, he manages to quickly overtake more established actors with the arrival of talkies, as many others have not been able to adapt to the new change. As for Nellie, even though she is one of the most famous actresses in Hollywood, she ends up turning to drugs with the high demands of her producers.
