Beau Is Afraid is a comedy-drama horror film directed by Ari Aster and produced by A24. Set in an alternate present, the plot follows Beau Wassermann (Joaquin Phoenix), an extremely tense and paranoid man who has a turbulent relationship with his domineering mother, Mona (Patti LuPone), and never knew his father. When Mona dies, Beau needs to go to his old home for the funeral, but the trip ends up being hampered by a series of unpredictable events that seem to try to divert him from his journey at any cost. Now, he must face his worst-and most absurd-fears if he is to reach his destination.
