Marty Supreme
So, picture this: it’s 1950s New York, and there’s a guy named Marty Mauser. He sells shoes to pay the bills but really lives for ping-pong. He’s all jazzed up about making it big in table tennis, though he gets sidetracked by gambling way too often. Despite what everyone else thinks, Marty is dead set on becoming the best.
His journey is like one wild ride with crazy scams and moments where everything seems lost…but he’s not alone! On his way to glory or ruin, Marty meets Carlon and Rachel—two amazing women who leave a lasting mark on his life. But chasing that top spot comes at a cost, leading him into a mess of lost money, heartbreak, and fading fame.
Critics really love this film! It’s seriously packed with comedy, action, and sports stuff all twisted together. One said it’s a wild ride you can’t easily pin down. It’s got the energy that just keeps you hooked from start to finish.
The movie gives that classic yet fresh feel as it skips the normal biopic route and dives straight into an adventurous slice of life jam-packed with adrenaline. The story captures Marty Reisman’s rollercoaster journey through fame during the ‘50s and ‘60s when he became one of the top players in table tennis. This guy was something else—tricky yet brilliant—and known for betting against himself to fool others while pulling off some legendary victories.
There’s also mention of filmmaker Josh Safdie bringing this incredible tale to life onscreen!
After his successful stuff with brother Benny, the director’s back at it alone! Fresh off a win at the Venice Film Festival for “The Smashing Machine”—another A24 project—he’s diving into a new movie about a guy from New York City, just like him. And they’ve got this New York-born actor playing the lead.
His buddy Ronald Bronstein is helping out as usual, doing the writing and co-producing. They worked with A24 on what they’re calling their biggest film ever. Shooting wrapped up in February 2025, after they filmed both stateside and over in Japan.
Seems like they’re aiming high for the Oscars—looking to make a splash come awards time in 2026. Timothée Chalamet is front and center again, playing another iconic American character of last century.
He’s really gone deep this time, even hitting up ping-pong courts for prep! With folks all chatty about how much he transformed for this role (someone even dubbed Safdie ‘Scorsese of our time’), it seems he’s gunning hard for his third Oscar nomination by age thirty—something James Dean did too back then. Timmy came close before with “Call Me by Your Name” and that Dylan flick but missed that Best Actor prize. Will this be his big moment? Only time—and perhaps one public screening so far—will tell!
Alright, check this out. So there’s this big movie called “Marty Supreme” that everyone’s buzzing about, especially because it’s got a crazy good cast and crew. At the Golden Globes, there’s serious competition happening between some heavyweights—this guy Martinez has folks thinking he could win, but Leonardo DiCaprio, his mentor, is also going for the top spot in this category.
The film’s got Gwyneth Paltrow doing her thing; she’s playing a woman who starts up a relationship with the young dude Marty. She’s hoping to snag another nomination since her epic win in “Shakespeare in Love.” Then we’ve got Odessa A’zion who’s only 25 but super talented—and she’s aiming high for recognition too.
Now here’s a cool bit: director Abel Ferrara is acting in it again after eight years away from being on screen. He teams up with guys like Kevin O’Leary from “Shark Tank,” making his first big-screen debut, plus rapper Tyler, the Creator hops in as well.
Visually, this film’s gonna be something special thanks to Darius Khondji shooting it on old-school 35mm film with these warm brown tones—all under the vision of production designer Jack Fisk who’s worked with some legends like Scorsese and Lynch. And get ready for an awesome score by Daniel Lopatin; you might remember him from other Safdie Brothers hits like “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems.”
“A24”, the studio behind it all, plans on owning Christmas at the box office in America when it drops December 25th. Italians don’t worry—it lands over there January 26th so it doesn’t clash with other big timers like “Avatar: Fire and Ashes.”
