The film is an original and personal look at the origins of Napoleon Bonaparte and his rapid and relentless rise to Emperor, seen through the prism of his visceral and often volatile relationship with his wife and true love, Josephine. It was in the heat of battle that Napoleon’s gifted mind as a military strategist shone brightest. Coming from nothing to rule all, he was at the same time waging another war: a romantic crusade with his adulterous wife. Conquering the world to try to win her love, when he can’t, he tries to destroy her – and destroys himself in the process.
