Triangle of Sadness is the Palme d’Or winner at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. The story begins with young models Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), who are navigating the fashion world while trying to become influencers. They win tickets to travel on a luxury cruise ship, becoming the only middle-class passengers in a group of millionaires, led by an alcoholic communist captain of the boat (Woody Harrelson). However, a stormy night and pirate attacks make the ship sink, leaving the survivors stranded on a deserted island. The hierarchy within the group completely changes when among this bunch of rich people, the only person who knows how to survive in this inhospitable place is the Filipino cleaning lady – capable of fishing and making a fire. Soon, this sarcastic comedy directed and written by Ruben Östlund begins to discuss this new dynamic that inverts the powers between the survivors and starts to question gender roles.
